McIlroy’s victory at the 2011 U.S. Open was one of the greatest performances in major-championship history. His 16-under total of 268 shattered the U.S. Open 72-hole scoring mark by four strokes. The 22-year-old from Northern Ireland was also the youngest to win the U.S. Open since Bob Jones in 1923 and the first 22-year-old to win the title since Jack Nicklaus made the 1962 U.S. Open his first professional win.
