Hy Peskin Collection
Hy Peskin was the first staff photographer for Sports Illustrated, and his image of Ben Hogan hitting a 1-iron into the 18th green at Merion Golf Club in the 1950 U.S. Open is arguably the most famous in golf. Last year, the USGA acquired the rights to many of Peskin's most treasured images, and 13 of them are now available for purchase as prints, including the famous Hogan 1-iron photo.
Peskin, who died in 2005 at age 89, was known for selecting angles that offered fresh perspectives of the action on the course. In addition to his classic depiction of Hogan, there are rare images of some of golf's legendary players, including Arnold Palmer, Mickey Wright and Sam Snead. "We're honored to be able to share Hy's work with the USGA and its Members, and to celebrate his incredible life with a community that shares his conviction to capture the spirit of the game," said Preston Reynolds, son of Hy Peskin and Adriana Peskin-Reynolds.
These photographs are a notable addition to the USGA Photo Store, which includes 500,000 images, both historic and contemporary, of USGA champions and renowned courses.
