In 2002, the Black Course at Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, N.Y., made history as the first municipally owned course to host the U.S. Open Championship. In June, 2009, the U.S. Open returns to “Bethpage Black.” Leading the field will be Tiger Woods, defending not only the U.S. Open title he claimed at Torrey Pines in 2008 but also the championship he won here in 2002.
