About this Photograph: Tom Watson and Bruce Edwards formed one of the longest player-caddie relationships on the PGA Tour. Edwards was on the bag when Watson holed out for a birdie at the 71st hole to win the 1982 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach. But in 2003, Edwards was battling for his life as he was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's Disease. Watson did his best to make the public aware of this deadly disease. At the 2003 U.S. Open, Watson opened with a 65 to share the first-round. At the 2003 U.S. Senior Open, Watson again got off to a strong start with a 66. But despite being the sentimental favorite and trying to win one last time for his buddy Edwards, Watson came up two strokes short of eventual champion Bruce Lietzke at The Inverness Club. Edwards passed away the following spring.
