About this Photograph: No female can match what Glenna Collett Vare accomplished at the U.S. Women's Amateur during her career. Vare won the championship a record six times, the last coming in 1935 when she defeated a young rising star named Patty Berg at Interlachen C.C. in Minneapolis. In 1930, Vare again reached the 36-hole championship match at Los Angeles Country Club, where she defeated Virginia Van Wie, 6 and 5. Vare had also beaten Van Wie in the 1928 final.
