The USGA championship trophies date back to the beginnings of the Association in 1895, when the inaugural U.S. Open, U.S. Amateur and U.S. Women's Amateur championships were waged. Today, the USGA conducts 13 individual national championships, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs. It also helps conduct the Walker and Curtis Cup and the World Amateur Team Championships for men and women. In 1995, the USGA created the State Team Championships for men and women as a way to celebrate its Centennial. The event was such a success that the USGA made the competition a permanent staple of its championships.
