About this Photograph: The Walker Cup Match began in 1922 as a team competition between amateurs from the USA and those from Great Britain and Ireland, and the Americans dominated, winning the first nine playings, including the 1936 Match at Pine Valley (N.J.) Golf Club. The 1936 USA team included Johnny Goodman, the 1933 U.S. Open champion from Omaha, Neb., who would win the U.S. Amateur the following year. The squad, captained by Francis Ouimet, also featured 1933 Amateur champion John Fischer and Charles Yates.
