About this Photograph: Oakmont and Arnold Palmer have always had a love affair, even though Palmer never won on the venerable course. The western Pennsylvania native played his first U.S. Open at Oakmont in 1953, a year before he won the U.S. Amateur. And Palmer had competed at every U.S. Open at Oakmont prior to 2007, including 1962 when he lost an 18-hole playoff to a young up-and-coming Jack Nicklaus. Palmer's last U.S. Open appearance came at Oakmont in 1994. Palmer still attracts a huge following.
