About this Photograph: Ben Hogan continued his dominance of the early 1950s by winning a record-tying fourth U.S. Open championship. Hogan, a tireless practitioner, always seemed to play well on tough courses, as evidenced by his previous Open triumphs at Riviera C.C., Merion and Oakland Hills. Oakmont was hardly a pushover, but Hogan opened with a 67 and he cruised home with a six-stroke win over Sam Snead. Hogan never won a fifth Open title, although he lost a playoff in 1955 at The Olympic Club to unheralded Jack Fleck and missed another chance in 1960 with a costly bogey at the 71st hole.
