About this Photograph: Oakmont C.C. was where western Pennsylvania native Arnold Palmer had made his U.S. Open debut in 1953 as an amateur. So it was appropriate that the 1960 U.S. Open champion would play his final U.S. Open at Oakmont in 1994. Palmer, whose legion of fans became known as Arnie's Army, had overwhelming support from the crowd in what became a highly emotional tour around one of America's most challenging Open layouts. Palmer, who missed the cut, had a tearful final press conference before spending plenty of time signing autographs for his many fans.
