The sweet-swinging Ben Hogan won a record-tying four U.S. Opens, the first coming at Riviera C.C. in 1948 and the last at Oakmont C.C. in 1953 when he became the first golfer to claim three professional majors in a single season. His 1950 Open victory at Merion came a little more than a year after a near-fatal auto accident.
