About this Photograph: The Country Club in Brookline, Mass., was the site of the 1922 U.S. Amateur, where Jess Sweetser defeated Charles Evans Jr., 3 and 2, in the 36-hole final. Nine years earlier, The Country Club had been the scene of one of the game's greatest upsets as Francis Ouimet held off English stalwarts Ted Ray and Harry Vardon to win the U.S. Open in a playoff. Still an amateur, Ouimet was defeated in the second round of the 1922 Amateur by Rudolf Knepper.
